Starting this Saturday, Decatur will host a free monthly concert series called 'Live at the Market,' running through September. The series, presented by Maverick Events, aims to highlight the city's vibrant music scene and draw visitors to the downtown area. Local developer Yogi Dougher and sponsors like Coca Cola and Adam's Beverages are supporting the initiative.
The first concert on Saturday will serve as a tribute to Johnny Sandlin, a late Decatur native celebrated as a recording engineer and producer for bands such as the Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic. Sandlin's contributions to music history will be shared through storytelling and performances.
The evening's musical lineup includes '80s and '90s rock band Love Scar and will culminate with End of the Line, a Nashville-based Allman Brothers tribute band. This tribute band is scheduled to perform the entirety of the Allman Brothers' 1972 album, 'Eat a Peach,' an album Sandlin helped engineer.
Beyond the evening concerts, Saturday will also feature the Eat a Peach Festival at the Farmers Market, with activities and music by Shaun Ferguson earlier in the day. Future concerts in the series will feature artists like country singer Alli Leighann, with acts for August and September still being finalized.
