Actress Reveals Why She Left Hollywood Cold Shoulder

Deborah Foreman, known for her role in the 1983 film Valley Girl, stepped away from acting in 1991 due to growing dissatisfaction with her career trajectory. She explained to PEOPLE that she began feeling a 'glass ceiling' in the early 1990s, unhappy with the roles being presented to her.

Foreman decided to stop pursuing acting rather than face continued disappointment. She recalled informing her agency that the work no longer felt right. This decision was partly influenced by her audition experience for the film Steel Magnolias, where she was considered for Sally Field's daughter, a part eventually secured by Julia Roberts.

Another significant factor involved a role in The Secret of My Success, which Foreman passed on due to issues with compensation, despite the director's interest. This led to Helen Slater taking the part. Reflecting on the experience, Foreman expressed no hard feelings, acknowledging the success of the Steel Magnolias cast and believing that things worked out as they should have for everyone involved.
