McCullough, who has been sober for five years, shared that intimate discussions about his sobriety journey, his experience coming out, and dealing with grief, including the anniversary of his aunt's death while filming, were not included in the broadcast. He feels this missed opportunity prevented viewers from seeing a fuller picture of his life.

Despite his criticisms, McCullough also commented on current events within the show, praising contestant Alex Scott for her successful smuggling of contraband. He understands the stringent measures taken by producers to prevent such items, acknowledging the skill required to bypass them and deeming it worthy of recognition.
