Summary

Todd Meadows, a crew member on the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady, died on February 25 after falling into sub-zero waters. His crewmates recounted their harrowing attempts to save him in the Bering Sea. During one rescue effort, a safety harness broke, causing Meadows to fall back into the water. He was later recovered unresponsive, approximately ten minutes after falling overboard.
Despite immediate CPR and use of the boat's defibrillator, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful after 45 minutes. Meadows' mother had previously revealed he suffered a concussion from a head injury about a month before his death. Investigators are still working to determine the official cause of death for the 25-year-old.
The U.S. Coast Guard was notified shortly after the incident, which occurred about 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Meadows' body was received by the Anchorage Medical Examiner's Office on February 27.
