James Gunn Teases Batman Casting Soon

James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has revealed that the highly anticipated casting for Batman in the new DC Universe is approaching rapidly. Gunn explicitly stated that the role has not yet been filled, debunking rumors and confirming that official announcements will be made soon. He also suggested that the studio might opt for a rising star rather than a widely recognized actor for the iconic role.

While Gunn's DCU is forging ahead, the separate Batman ventures under director Matt Reeves, such as 'The Batman Part II,' are proceeding independently. These projects, including potential spinoffs, will not be integrated into the main DCU's shared continuity. This allows for distinct storytelling approaches to the character of Batman across different cinematic universes.

Gunn referred to Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman as "diamond characters" within the DC pantheon. David Corenswet is already set to portray Superman, with 'Superman' scheduled for release in 2025. Upcoming DCU projects include 'Man of Tomorrow' in July 2027, featuring Superman against Brainiac, and various animated series.
