Daytime Emmys Shake Up Rules for Nominations
14 Jul
Summary
- Daytime Emmys now use episode-based submissions, similar to Primetime.
- Nomination count per category varies based on submission volume.
- Guest actor eligibility for daytime dramas has new criteria.

The 53rd annual Daytime Emmy nominations have begun, highlighting several significant rule changes designed to modernize the awards. Programs can now submit individual episodes for consideration, adopting a "primetime format" that allows for multiple entries and potentially more nominations per show. This shift aims to recognize the evolving landscape of daytime television and storytelling innovation.
The number of nominations a category receives will now be determined by the volume of submissions, following a scale similar to the Primetime Emmys. Categories with 150 or more submissions will receive up to 10 nominations. This dynamic approach ensures fairness and reflects the competitiveness within each category.
Furthermore, new eligibility criteria have been introduced for guest actors in daytime drama series, restricting their maximum appearance percentage to be eligible. The science and nature programming category has been eliminated, redirecting such content to other relevant award areas. Daytime dramas and non-fiction programs will now compete together in most categories, except for writing and directing, with potential for separation if submission numbers warrant it.
