Summary
- James Van Der Beek, 48, diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023
- Auctioning off personal TV memorabilia to pay for expensive treatment
- Items include outfit from Dawson's Creek premiere, prom necklace

In a bid to pay for his expensive cancer treatment, actor James Van Der Beek is auctioning off some of his most treasured TV memorabilia. The 48-year-old, who starred in the beloved 90s teen drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003, revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal (bowel) cancer.
To help cover the costs of his treatment, Van Der Beek has teamed up with Propstore to sell off items from his personal collection. Dawson's Creek fans will have the chance to own the outfit he wore in the show's very first episode, which is expected to sell for up to £3,000. They can also bid on the necklace his on-screen character Dawson gave to girlfriend Joey (played by Katie Holmes) for prom, which could raise as much as £40,000.
Other items up for grabs include the shoes and West Caana Coyotes Hat that Van Der Beek wore in the 1999 teen comedy Varsity Blues. The auction will be held in London, with online bids accepted from December 6 onwards. The actor expressed his mixed emotions about parting with these cherished items, saying, "While I have some nostalgia tugging at me, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore's auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years."
