2 Mar
Summary
- James Van Der Beek wanted a Dawson's Creek revival.
- He even had a great idea and planned to write it.
- Kevin Williamson was resistant to a show reboot.

Kevin Williamson, the creator of Dawson's Creek, recently shared insights into the late actor James Van Der Beek's aspirations for a show revival. Williamson expressed his initial reluctance, noting that the show's finale jumped five years into the future, effectively serving as a conclusion. He felt no need to revisit the world, despite his affection for the cast.
However, Van Der Beek was enthusiastic about a reunion and had discussed rebooting the series with Williamson multiple times. Van Der Beek had developed a significant concept and even considered writing it himself. This plan, though promising, was ultimately set aside as the actors became involved in other projects, preventing the revival from coming to fruition.
Van Der Beek passed away at age 48 after a private battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer. He had publicly shared his diagnosis in November 2024, expressing optimism for recovery. His family confirmed his peaceful passing in a statement on February 11, 2026. Earlier, in March 2025, he had to miss a charity reunion organized by Michelle Williams due to a health setback, expressing his disappointment via Instagram.
