David Lynch: LA, a significant exhibition of photographs by the acclaimed artist, opens September 18, 2026, at Pace Gallery in Los Angeles. The show, which runs until October 24, 2026, marks the first major presentation of Lynch's artwork in his adopted hometown since his passing.
The exhibition thoughtfully integrates five distinct photographic series, created between 1979 and 2008. These works are curated to demonstrate the integral role Lynch's lens played in connecting his celebrated filmmaking career with his visual art practices.
His artistic journey began with formal painting studies before he transitioned to Los Angeles in 1972. Lynch's early experimental film, The Grandmother, secured him an AFI grant, leading to his debut feature, Eraserhead, and international acclaim.
Despite his filmmaking success, Lynch maintained a parallel studio practice. His photographic work, including abstract nudes and architectural studies of Los Angeles, developed in tandem with his films, each informing the other. The exhibition features series like Figures and Smoke and the Couch Series, showcasing his distinctive vision.
An opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026. The gallery is located at 1201 South La Brea Avenue.
