McCartney Mourns 'Joyful' Artist David Hockney

Sir Paul McCartney has paid a heartfelt tribute to his friend, the celebrated painter David Hockney, who passed away peacefully at home on June 11 at the age of 88. McCartney described Hockney as "clever, witty, and fun," noting that his paintings often conveyed a great sense of joy.

The musician recalled visiting Hockney's studios in California and London, where they discussed art and Hockney's unique perspectives on viewing the world. McCartney highlighted Hockney's embrace of new technologies, including mastering iPad drawing.

Tributes have poured in from notable figures, including King Charles and Queen Camilla. The King remembered Hockney as one of life's true originals, whose genius was as lightly worn as his signature yellow Crocs.

Hockney's career, spanning seven decades, was marked by his innovative use of various formats, including printmaking, set design, and digital art. His 2017 exhibition at Tate Britain became the gallery's most popular to date.

Popstar Harry Styles also paid tribute during his recent London concert, displaying a quote from the artist about the importance of sharing experiences through art. Hockney, who had previously declined a knighthood, was appointed to the Order of the Companions of Honour and the Order of Merit.
