Royal Dress Designer Earns Top Honour

David Emanuel, the renowned fashion designer behind Princess Diana's wedding gown, has been appointed an MBE in the King's 2026 Birthday Honours list. This prestigious award acknowledges his extensive work with a leading cancer charity. Emanuel, a cancer survivor himself, expressed his enduring admiration for Princess Diana and commended King Charles for his openness about his own health.

Alongside Emanuel, broadcaster Cerys Matthews was appointed an OBE for her contributions to music. The King's 2026 list features over 80 recipients from Wales, highlighting diverse achievements across various fields. These honours underscore the significant impact individuals have on their communities and professions.

Emanuel's advocacy for Macmillan Cancer Support, which he began after his own prostate cancer diagnosis, aims to encourage more open discussions about health, particularly among men. He noted the King's own cancer disclosure as a brave step that encourages public dialogue on health matters.

Other notable Welsh recipients include Cliff Jones, a member of Tottenham's 1961 double-winning team, for his services to Welsh football. Long-serving MP Jessica Morden was made a dame, and Ally Outten received a BEM for establishing a charity that provides free prom dresses and suits to disadvantaged pupils. Mountain rescue volunteer Karl Lester was also awarded an MBE for his extensive service.
