Daveigh Chase's Mom Speaks Out After Tragic Death

Cathy Chase, mother of the late child star Daveigh Chase, has shared her profound grief and disbelief following her daughter's passing at the age of 35. Chase revealed she had not communicated with her daughter since 2019. The actress, known for her role in "The Ring," reportedly struggled with addiction and lived in the vicinity of Los Angeles' Skid Row.

Her death on June 17 was attributed to meningitis and complications from blood infections leading to sepsis, according to her boyfriend. Cathy described her initial reaction as devastating, feeling an immense physical and emotional pain.

Despite their estrangement, Cathy diligently searched online forums and the LA County Medical Examiner's system, hoping to find any trace of her daughter. She recounted her shock upon seeing news of Daveigh's death, initially dismissing it as fake until confirmed by multiple legitimate sources.

On the morning of June 18, Cathy identified Daveigh's remains at a Los Angeles hospital, describing a spiritual moment where she and a chaplain prayed over her daughter's body, finding solace in this final connection.

Cathy disclosed that Daveigh's addiction struggles began in 2016 after a back injury from a motorcycle accident resulted in a prescription for potent painkillers like oxycodone. She explained that her daughter then sought drugs and associated with negative influences.

The mother's last encounter with Daveigh was in October 2019, during a jail visit where her daughter faced burglary charges. Cathy noted a significant change in Daveigh's demeanor, which she attributed to drug use rather than a diagnosed mental health condition, although she mentioned PTSD.

Despite challenges, Cathy maintained she never gave up on her daughter and hoped for her return, rejecting any notion of being a "bad mother."
