He will be presented with the award on Friday, August 14, in the Swiss city's Piazza Grand. As part of the festival's tribute, two of his notable films, The Fountain (2006) and Mother! (2017), will be screened.
Locarno highlighted Aronofsky's "era-defining films" such as π, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Noah, and The Whale, noting his provocative and daring style. The festival director emphasized Aronofsky's role as an auteur who challenges conventions, creating an "unmistakable body of work."
