The film follows William, who receives a double blow: a diagnosis of an incurable brain tumor and the death of his best friend in Afghanistan. This forces William to confront his own mortality.
Oplev describes the film as a "dark and absurdly funny rumination on love and the meaning of life." He aims to explore how death, often hidden away, can bring brutal clarity to life's purpose.
"Shadow & Light" is produced by Thomas Heinesen for Nordisk Film Production, with support from various Danish film institutions. The film is slated for a local premiere in 2027.
