In September 2025, the Indian crime drama "Search: The Naina Murder Case" is set to premiere on the streaming platform JioHotstar. This new series is the fourth international adaptation of the acclaimed Danish television phenomenon "The Killing" ("Forbrydelsen"), which originally aired on DR1 in 2007.
Directed by Rohan Sippy and starring a talented cast including Konkona Sen Sharma, Surya Sharma, Shiv Panditt, and Dhruv Sehgal, the Indian adaptation consists of six episodes produced by Applause Entertainment and Highgate Entertainment. The original Danish series, created by Søren Sveistrup, became a cultural milestone, helping establish the international Nordic noir movement with its real-time narrative approach and combination of criminal investigation with political themes.
The show's distinctive lead character, detective Sarah Lund, played by Sofie Gråbøl, and her tenacious investigative methods, as well as her iconic knitwear, became widely recognized. Running for three seasons, the series earned a BAFTA and was broadcast in over 100 territories worldwide, achieving significant success.
"Each time 'The Killing' is adapted, it feels like an extraordinary honor," said Sveistrup, the creator of the original Danish series. "It serves as a lasting reminder of the exceptional talent and vision of the team behind the original."
