Summary
- Daniel Day-Lewis returns to acting after 8-year break
- Co-wrote and starred in new film 'Anemone' with son Ronan
- Collaborated closely with Ronan during film's lengthy development

Renowned actor Daniel Day-Lewis has returned to the screen after an 8-year acting hiatus, starring in the new film 'Anemone' which he co-wrote with his son Ronan Day-Lewis. The father-son duo collaborated closely for years on developing the screenplay, allowing them to have extensive discussions about the characters and emotional trajectory of the story before filming began.
"It's so rare to be... able to prepare together," Ronan Day-Lewis said at a Q&A following the film's premiere. "By the time we got to set, we'd had so many of these extremely detailed conversations about each scene that it was really helpful to kind of not have the pressure" of limited time on set.
Daniel Day-Lewis, known for his meticulous approach to acting, expressed his usual feeling of starting "from scratch every time" on a new project. However, the long development process with his son made the first day of filming feel more like a "continuation of something that's already started a long time ago."
'Anemone' is a Northern England-set drama that follows a middle-aged man, played by Sean Bean, who reconnects with his estranged hermit brother, portrayed by Day-Lewis. The film also stars Samantha Morton and Samuel Bottomley.
