Summary
- Dancers face hardship, taking jobs as rickshaw drivers and domestic workers.
- Nritya Seva organizes a cricket tournament for fundraising and awareness.
- A housing project aims to provide homes for ten senior women dancers.

Numerous dancers who once graced film sets and stages are now struggling to survive, with some resorting to roles as rickshaw drivers or domestic workers due to a lack of work and support. This critical situation has spurred dancer-turned-entrepreneur Raj Surani to establish Nritya Seva, a welfare initiative dedicated to assisting senior dancers in need.
Nritya Seva has organized a cricket tournament on August 5 and 6 to raise awareness and funds, bringing together dancers and choreographers for this cause. A significant highlight of the initiative is a housing project for senior women dancers facing financial distress. Ten women have been shortlisted, and one will receive a one-bedroom home in Palghar, valued at approximately ₹25 lakh, through a lucky draw. This project, supported by a developer's discount, aims to provide security and dignity to dancers living in difficult conditions.
The initiative also seeks to create a long-term support system through financial aid, medical assistance, and welfare programs. Surani emphasizes the need for a safety net for dancers, whose careers are often short. Furthermore, Nritya Seva plans to educate younger dancers on financial planning, medical insurance, and career sustainability to prevent similar hardships in the future. Discussions are underway to establish a welfare fund contributed by working dancers, ensuring continuous support for those who may face difficulties later in life.
