Dan Houser, co-founder of Rockstar Games, has unveiled initial details for his ambitious new project, "Absurdaverse." This new venture is described as an interconnected comedy satire universe that will encompass both an animated series and a AAA story-driven open-world video game.
Fans will get a first look at animated shorts from the "Absurdaverse" on May 7 at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in Los Angeles. These shorts will introduce eclectic characters voiced by a lineup of comedians, including Rachel Dratch as a chain-smoking podcaster and Dan Soder as a Chief People Officer. Additional cast members will be announced later, with the project expected to feature a large ensemble.
Houser, along with longtime partner Jeffrey "Lazlow" Jones, aims to build upon their shared history of creating immersive media universes, recalling their work on in-game animated shows for the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Red Dead Redemption" franchises. Absurd Ventures, Houser's media company, plans to reveal release windows and platform partners for the animated series and game at a future date.
