Damon Lindelof is returning to HBO with "The Chain," an eight-episode series based on Adrian McKinty's 2019 novel. This marks Lindelof's first new show as a showrunner for the premium cable network since the acclaimed "Watchmen" limited series. The project stems from an overall deal HBO signed with Lindelof last fall. While details remain scarce, it is expected that Lindelof will expand upon the novel's existing mythology, a creative approach he previously applied to great success.
The novel "The Chain" presents a suspenseful thriller that merges the concepts of chain letters and hostage exchanges. In the narrative, parents face a harrowing situation when their children are kidnapped. Beyond paying a ransom, they are compelled to abduct another child themselves, thereby perpetuating a sinister chain of criminal activity. This new series also marks the second adaptation attempt for "The Chain," following a planned feature film version in 2020 that never materialized.
