Dame Shirley Bassey revealed she is ceasing replies to fan mail due to an impending hand surgery. The renowned Welsh singer expressed deep gratitude for the letters received over her seven-decade career, calling herself 'truly humbled' by the messages.

Bassey, who hails from Cardiff, shared her disappointment about the temporary halt on responding to fans via Instagram. She noted the privilege of reading about their celebrations, losses, and how her music has connected generations.

Over her extensive career, Dame Shirley, who grew up in Tiger Bay, became a global star. She is celebrated for recording three James Bond theme tunes: 'Goldfinger,' 'Diamonds Are Forever,' and 'Moonraker.'

Her 1960 recording of 'As Long As He Needs Me' spent 30 weeks on the charts. In 1999, she performed at the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony in Cardiff, wearing a gown inspired by the Welsh flag.

Bassey was honored with a damehood in 1999 for her contributions to entertainment. More recently, in 2024, she was awarded a Companion of Honour at Windsor Castle, an accolade limited to 65 individuals for outstanding contributions to the arts.
