Cleaning Sparks Creativity for Music Icon Cyndi Lauper

According to a recent interview, iconic singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper has an unconventional source of inspiration for her music: household chores. The 72-year-old artist told fellow musician Gracie Abrams that she often gets creative ideas while cleaning her home.

"I clean the house, and while I'm cleaning, all this stuff comes to me. I don't know why," Lauper explained. She recalled how as a child, her mother would ask her to clean her room, and that's when she would sit and play guitar, surrounded by pictures of the Beatles.

Lauper has been busy working on music for Broadway shows, including the 2013 hit Kinky Boots and an upcoming adaptation of Working Girl, which she says has been in development for over a decade. She noted that writing for other performers' voices can be both "easier and harder" than writing for herself.
