Stockholm-based streaming service Cultpix is launching a new Blu-ray label, marking its entry into physical media distribution. This expansion will debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May with four restored titles sourced from partner film institutes in Hungary, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and Estonia.
The inaugural release will feature Hungary's "Meteo" (1990) at Cannes, followed by monthly releases of "Fantasy of the Deer Warrior" (1961), "The Man from the First Century" (1962), and "Madness" (1968). Cultpix also plans to release Taiwan's "Dragon Superman" trilogy restoration later in the year, with further titles under discussion.
This initiative builds on Cultpix's established collaborations with 11 national film archives for its streaming content. The strategy mirrors that of its sister company, Klubb Super 8, which has successfully operated a Blu-ray label for over 25 years. Cultpix intends to complement its physical media releases with theatrical screenings as part of a broader multi-platform distribution approach.
