Culbin Forest: From Witch Tales to Blockbuster Screen

Culbin Forest, a distinctive woodland located on Scotland's Moray Firth coast, will soon be visible on cinema screens worldwide. It is featured as a filming location in the upcoming movie 'The Odyssey.'

The film, which stars prominent actors like Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, draws inspiration from a nearly 3,000-year-old Greek poem. This epic work recounts the arduous journey of the hero Odysseus returning home after years of warfare.

Last year, Culbin Forest was among several Scottish locations where scenes depicting intense battles between warriors and mythical giants were filmed. The forest itself boasts a long and varied history.

Its past is interwoven with folklore, including legends of a witch, a devastating sandstorm, and a 'great fire.' Adding to its dramatic history, the forest was also once shelled by the Royal Navy.
