Critical Role Unleashes Gritty 'The Mighty Nein' Animated Series

As the cultural juggernaut that is Critical Role continues to expand, the group is set to premiere their second animated series, 'The Mighty Nein', in November 2025. Unlike the lighthearted 'Legend of Vox Machina', which adapted their first Dungeons & Dragons campaign, this new show will take a much darker and grittier approach.

The Mighty Nein will jump ahead 20 years from the events of the first series, exploring a different tale in the world of Exandria. Rather than introducing the ensemble cast as a cohesive team, the early episodes will tease out their individual backstories and motivations, showcasing the "dangerous" and "gritty" nature of the world.

The voice cast features the core Critical Role members reprising their roles, but the show has also assembled an impressive roster of guest stars. This includes Broadway talents like Anika Noni Rose as Jester's mother, Marion Lavorre, and Alan Cumming as the eccentric ringmaster Gustav Fletching. Other notable additions include Mark Strong as the villainous Trent Ikithon and country music icon Tim McGraw as Fjord's mentor, Captain Vandran.

With longer, drama-length episodes and a focus on character development, 'The Mighty Nein' promises to offer a more mature and immersive experience for Critical Role fans.
