21 Aug
Summary
- Unreleased Cramps recordings from 1977 sessions to be issued.
- Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye partner to revive band's catalog.
- Vengeance Records reissues mark a major revival for the band.

The influential and avant-garde band The Cramps are poised for a significant resurgence. This revival centers on the relaunch of Vengeance Records, which will spearhead a comprehensive reissue campaign. The first release features astonishing recordings from October 1977, captured at Memphis' Ardent Studios with Alex Chilton. These tracks, originally intended for the group's first singles but not included on the 'Gravest Hits' EP, have remained unheard by most fans until now.
These unreleased gems include original compositions and obscure covers from the 1950s and 1960s. The early Cramps lineup, featuring guitarists Poison Ivy and Bryan Gregory, produced a uniquely trebly and trashy sound. This reissue offers a fascinating glimpse into their formative years, complementing their already celebrated early albums.
Longtime fans Henry Rollins and Ian MacKaye, along with others, have joined forces with Poison Ivy, who holds the rights to much of the band's catalog. This collaboration aims to keep The Cramps' distinctive music and vision in public view, ensuring their legacy endures beyond Lux Interior's passing in 2009.
