The prestigious DOX:AWARD category includes 12 films vying for a €10,000 prize. The festival's other five competitions, each offering a €5,000 award, are dedicated to F:ACT (investigative journalism), HUMAN:RIGHTS (defense of human rights), NEW:VISION (artists' films), NEXT:WAVE (emerging filmmakers), and NORDIC:DOX (regional documentaries).
A notable addition for 2026 is the FIPRESCI Award, presented by the International Federation of Film Critics, which will honor one of the 12 films nominated in the DOX:AWARD Competition. CPH:DOX is also collaborating with the Doc Alliance network to present films nominated for the 2026 Doc Alliance Award.
Artistic Director Niklas Engstrøm emphasized documentary cinema's vital role in a period of shifting frameworks, describing the selected films as spaces for "sustained attention" that "resist simplification and speed." Head of Program Mads K. Mikkelsen added that the lineup "critically and creatively reflect[s] the troubled times we live in," exploring 21st-century cinema with humanism and poetry.
