Remedy Entertainment has released "Control Resonant," the highly anticipated sequel to their 2019 supernatural action-adventure game. Development spanned nearly seven years, culminating in the game's launch on Thursday for major platforms including Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
The sequel introduces Dylan Faden, Jesse's younger brother, as the primary protagonist. Players will guide Dylan through a reality-warped Manhattan, battling preternatural threats and mastering his shape-shifting melee weapon, the Aberrant. This marks a significant departure from the original game, which focused on Jesse's search for Dylan.
Franchise creative director Mikael Kasurinen highlighted the "reverse symmetry" between the two games. While Jesse sought Dylan in the first "Control," Dylan now searches for his missing sister in "Resonant." This narrative shift allows for a deeper exploration of Dylan's character, his search for belonging, and his confrontation with imminent dangers, mirroring Jesse's journey in unexpected ways.
"Control Resonant" also introduces revamped gameplay mechanics. Notably, the combat shifts from firearms to a melee-focused approach with Dylan's Aberrant weapon. Kasurinen emphasized the creation of a versatile sandbox, encouraging players to utilize gravity anomalies and diverse environmental navigation. The game also features a wider array of enemy types, demanding strategic adaptation from players, much like its predecessor.
