In the upcoming film "Bugonia" from director Yorgos Lanthimos, a conspiracy-fueled beekeeper named Jesse Plemons kidnaps a high-powered pharmaceutical CEO, played by Emma Stone. Plemons' character is convinced that Stone's character is an extraterrestrial intent on destroying the planet, and he ropes in a fellow conspiracist, played by Aidan Delbis, to assist in his mission to save the Earth.
The film is a remake of the 2004 Korean sci-fi movie "Save the Green Planet!" and blends dark comedy and sci-fi elements as Lanthimos explores the potential performativity of such capitalist-fighting crusades. "Bugonia" first premiered at the Venice Film Festival and is set to hit theaters in time for Halloween, with Focus Features distributing the movie.
The film marks Lanthimos' tenth feature and his fourth collaboration with Emma Stone, following their previous work on "Poor Things," which earned Stone a Best Actress Oscar. "Bugonia" is expected to be a buzzier release for Lanthimos compared to his more recent "Kinds of Kindness," which performed unimpressively at the box office.
