Summary

- Buscemi remained in his Hannibal Lecter-like mask for hours.
- The actor's silence prevented him from alerting crew to the error.

More than 25 years after its release, the director of the action film 'Con Air' has revealed an embarrassing on-set mistake. Simon West admitted that during the filming of a scene featuring Steve Buscemi as the character Garland Greene, he forgot to release the actor from his restraints.
Buscemi, who played the menacing 'Marietta Mangler,' was depicted in a confined cell on a prisoner transport plane. The actor was secured with special gear, including a mask reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter's. West confessed to moving on to other shots without freeing Buscemi, leaving him in the restraints for significantly longer than planned.
According to West, Buscemi's silence, a consequence of his character's mask, contributed to the oversight. The actor did not alert the crew to his predicament. West eventually realized his error after about 20 minutes of filming other scenes and promptly released Buscemi, who reportedly took the mistake in stride.
