24 Jul
Summary
- Rapper dramatically drank from a tequila bottle onstage.
- The VERZUZ event featured a clash between The Game and YG.
- Fans were divided on who would win the rap battle.
On Thursday, July 23, a VERZUZ event culminated in a dramatic on-stage moment. The rapper, repeatedly referring to himself as "Bompton," took a large swig from what appeared to be a bottle of Don Julio tequila. He then celebrated by dropping the empty bottle onto the stage.
This VERZUZ battle showcased a generational clash between Compton rappers The Game and YG. The Game, an established artist since 2005 with hits like "How We Do," faced off against YG, who rose to prominence later with tracks such as "Toot It and Boot It."
The VERZUZ series, co-created by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, has evolved from its initial Instagram Live format into live, in-person showcases. Artists compete in two 10-song rounds, with previous matchups including iconic record label battles and legendary female vocalists.
Anticipation for the event was high, with fan opinions divided. Online discussions revealed a split, with some favoring The Game's extensive catalog and others backing YG's appeal, particularly from his popular club and party anthems.
