Community Stars Reunite at Catalina Film Festival, Celebrate Costar's Award

In a heartwarming reunion, two stars from the beloved TV series Community came together at the 15th annual Catalina Film Festival last weekend. Yvette Nicole Brown, who played Shirley Bennett on the show, honored her longtime friend and costar Ken Jeong, who portrayed the foul-mouthed Spanish teacher Señor Chang, with the prestigious "King of Comedy" award.

During his acceptance speech, Jeong affectionately referred to Brown as "bubby" several times and even planted a kiss on her cheek after she presented him with the accolade. The actor also discussed his career journey, sharing how he transitioned from practicing medicine to playing doctors on television, and thanked his wife, Dr. Tran Ho, for her unwavering support.

The reunion comes as fans of the series have been eagerly anticipating the long-planned Community movie. In a recent update, Jeong revealed that the script has been written and a plan is in place, though the exact timing of the production remains uncertain. "It made me emotional, and just brought me right back," Jeong said of reading the script, expressing his excitement to reunite with the cast on set once the project is greenlit.

Community, which originally ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015, has maintained a devoted fanbase, with the iconic phrase "six seasons and a movie" becoming a rallying cry for the show's loyal viewers. Now, their wish has been granted, as Peacock officially ordered the Community movie in 2022 after acquiring the full library of the series.
