Pete Davidson Honors Late 9/11 Firefighter Father Through Memories and Mementos

In a recent documentary, comedian Pete Davidson, now 31 years old, reflects on the profound impact of losing his firefighter father on 9/11 when he was just 7 years old. Despite the heartbreak, Davidson found an unexpected source of comfort in the most unlikely place—Eddie Murphy's 1983 comedy special Delirious, which was known for its adult content and profanity.

Davidson recalls his mother's initial shock at his fascination with the special, but she ultimately allowed him to watch it in secret, recognizing it as a way for him to cope with the tragedy. "I was dying laughing," Davidson says, "and she was like, 'You can watch this stuff as long as you don't repeat it or tell anybody.'"

Today, Davidson continues to cherish the memories of his late father, whom he describes as "f***ing hilarious" and always having a big smile. He has kept several of his father's personal belongings, including his wedding ring, chain, and badge, as a way to honor his memory. "I just keep it in a safe 'cause with my luck I'll lose it," Davidson says.

As Davidson has grown older, the impact of his father's death has become more profound. "It'll show up more and more as I get older 'cause you understand, 'That's really sad to happen to a kid,'" he reflects. Despite the pain, Davidson finds solace in hearing stories about his father from his friends, who fondly remember him as "Scotty."
