A new series based on John le Carré's 14-book Berlin Noir series is currently filming in Berlin. The adaptation, produced by Bad Wolf and Tom Hanks' PlayTone, features Colin Firth as Paul Lohser, a brilliant but difficult Murder Detective with the Berlin Police. Firth's character serves as a mentor to Bernie Gunther, played by Jack Lowden, a police officer newly promoted to the elite Berlin Murder Squad.
The series, which begins with Metropolis, explores Bernie's origin story in 1928 Berlin, a city of freedom and turbulence. As the political and social landscape shifts, Bernie fights for truth. This project reunites Firth and Straughan, who previously collaborated on the 2011 film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
