Colbert Tackles Lord of the Rings Again

Stephen Colbert is embarking on a new cinematic endeavor as he prepares to host a Lord of the Rings movie following his departure from The Late Show on May 21. This ambitious project sees Colbert taking the helm for New Line, working alongside established producers Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh. The upcoming film will draw its narrative from 'Fogs on the Barrow-downs,' a specific chapter within The Fellowship of the Ring. In this segment, Hobbits find themselves ensnared by an unnatural fog and a malevolent Barrow-wight. This adaptation is notable as it's based on J.R.R. Tolkien's appendices, similar to the recent "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." The latter, slated for release on December 17, 2027, is directed by Andy Serkis, who famously portrayed Gollum, and features adaptations by Walsh, Boyens, Arty Papageorgiou, and Phoebe Gittins. Colbert's deep passion for the Lord of the Rings universe is well-documented, evidenced by his past involvement in panels at Comic-Con for both the Amazon series and 2014's The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies.
