Club Kid Dominates Deauville Film Festival

The Deauville American Film Festival recently concluded, celebrating cinematic achievements and fostering international industry connections. Jordan Firstman's highly anticipated directorial debut, "Club Kid," which previously gained traction at Cannes, was a standout winner, securing both the Grand Prix Award and the City of Deauville Audience Award.

Other films recognized at the Normandy-based festival included "If I Go Will They Miss" and "Tangles," which each received jury prizes. "Tangles" also garnered the Critics' Prize, while "Mouse" earned the Revelation Prize, and "Test" claimed the Canal+ Prize.

The festival welcomed a significant array of stars, with Brendan Fraser attending for a screening of "Control" and accepting the Deauville Talent Award. This honor was also bestowed upon Ethan Hawke, marking his return to Deauville after 35 years.

Icon Awards were presented to Faye Dunaway and Susan Sarandon, while Sophie Thatcher and Patrick Schwarzenegger received Rising Star honors. Many other notable figures, including Catherine Deneuve, Casey Affleck, Ira Sachs, Simon Pegg, and Pete Doherty, also made appearances.

Beyond film screenings and awards, Deauville hosted its second annual industry section. This event focused on strengthening U.S.-French film industry ties, featuring panels on international collaboration, local actor breakout opportunities, financing schemes, and tax rebate systems for international productions.

Variety also hosted a discussion with producer David Atrakchi on the making of the Netflix film "Champagne Problems," which was filmed entirely in France.
