Netflix has officially greenlit "City Hunter 2," the highly anticipated sequel to its successful 2024 live-action adaptation. The new film is set to premiere globally in 2027, continuing the adventures of the beloved characters. Ryohei Suzuki will once again portray the legendary Ryo Saeba, with Misato Morita reprising her role as Kaori Makimura. Veteran detective Saeko Nogami will be played by newcomer Fumino Kimura.
Directed by Keiichiro Shiraki and written by Junpei Yamaoka, "City Hunter 2" builds on the remarkable success of its predecessor. The first film achieved the No. 1 spot on Netflix's Global Top 10 for non-English films and was a Top 10 hit in 32 countries. This popularity significantly boosted sales of Tsukasa Hojo's original manga, reportedly by ninefold, and generated substantial local economic activity during its production.
Suzuki expressed gratitude for the opportunity to create a new installment, aiming to capture the essence of the original story for both existing fans and newcomers.
