Lata Mangeshkar's Fury: Singer Battled for CID's Revival

The long-running Indian crime drama CID, which originally aired from 1998 to 2018, returned with a new season in 2024, reuniting beloved characters. Actor Dayanand Shetty, famous for playing Senior Inspector Daya, recently revealed that internal politics were the primary reason for the show's unexpected cancellation in 2018. The issues reportedly began around 2016 when the channel sought to replace the show's producers, a move the cast opposed due to their close relationships.

Further complications arose when it was discovered that the actors had never formally signed contracts during their 21 years on the show, operating instead on verbal agreements. This lack of formal contracts surprised the channel. Despite these behind-the-scenes struggles, the show maintained a strong fan following, with viewers actively expressing their desire for its return on social media.

Adding to the narrative of the show's support, Shetty shared that the late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar was a significant admirer of CID. Mangeshkar reportedly voiced her strong opposition to the show's discontinuation and even contacted the channel, including its American branch, to express her disappointment and advocate for its continuation.
