6 Mar
Summary
- Will Ferrell advocated for Christina Applegate's role in Anchorman.
- Applegate learned improvisational comedy on the Anchorman set.
- She also recounted ditching Brad Pitt for the VMAs.

Christina Applegate disclosed on The View that she received an "offensive" initial offer for her role in the 2004 film Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. She stated her intention to decline due to the low pay, but co-star Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay ensured she stayed, reportedly contributing to her salary themselves.
Applegate described her time on the Anchorman set as one of her best professional experiences. She highlighted learning improvisational comedy from the ensemble cast, including Steve Carell, calling it a "masterclass." She admitted initial fear of improvising but found it invaluable for her career development.
In her memoir, "You With the Sad Eyes," Applegate also detailed declining an invitation to the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards with Brad Pitt, whom she noted was not yet the global star he would become. She instead left the event with musician Sebastian Bach.
Applegate reprised her role as Veronica Corningstone in the 2013 sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
