'The Chosen' defies expectations beyond coasts

A recent analysis explored the unexpected popularity of 'The Chosen,' a television series depicting the life of Jesus Christ, and its impact on Hollywood's perception of faith-based content.

Hollywood is experiencing a resurgence in biblical projects, with 2025 noted as a strong year for such content. This includes hits like 'House of David' and animated films such as 'David.' Notably, multiple Jesus-themed projects appeared in the box office Top Ten in April, indicating a growing market for religious narratives.

Religious content is increasingly seen as appealing to devoted fan bases within specific subcultures. This approach allows marketers to target observant Christians who may feel underserved. Creator Dallas Jenkins, described as enthusiastic and guileless, seems to view faith audiences as a broad majority rather than a niche minority.

The show's appeal extends globally, with Season 1 available in 125 languages, including Finnish and Kyrgyz. It achieved Top Ten status on Netflix in countries like Paraguay, Honduras, and Brazil. This widespread international reception underscores a significant, often overlooked, audience.

Despite its success, some critics note that the show's narrative, while faithful to known events, may lack suspense for those unfamiliar with the outcome. However, for its core audience, the show provides a profound connection to faith and personal transformation, with many fans reporting life-changing experiences and a deepened relationship with God.
