Musician Brian Borcherdt stumbled upon this sound when playing a Chipmunks album at 16rpm on an old turntable, which dramatically altered the instrumentation while retaining vocal pitches.

The project, a pun on the electroclash group Chicks on Speed, transforms familiar songs like "My Sharona" and "Heartbreaker" into something both menacing and ethereal. These slowed-down tracks have gained viral attention on platforms like TikTok and Twitter, with fans imagining the cartoon chipmunks as dark rock stars.
