The company, co-founded by filmmaker Jia Zhangke and distributor Tian Qi, secured international sales rights for 'Minotaur' and 'La Gradiva' from Mk2 Films.
'Minotaur,' directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, won the prestigious Grand Prix at Cannes and is anticipated to be an Oscar contender. Unknown Pleasures Pictures has acquired the rights for mainland China and Hong Kong for this title.
'La Gradiva,' a coming-of-age drama and the feature directorial debut of Marine Atlan, won the top prize in Cannes Critics Week. The company has secured rights for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan for this film.
Launched in March 2025, Unknown Pleasures Pictures aims to expand the distribution of arthouse films in China. The company previously achieved success with its first release, 'There's Still Tomorrow,' which grossed over $6 million. Last year, it acquired 'Sentimental Value,' which also won the Cannes Grand Prix and an Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
