War Comedy Dominates China Box Office for Fifth Week

For the fifth consecutive weekend, the war comedy-drama "Once Upon a Time in the Middle East" has maintained its position as the number one film at the mainland China box office. It earned RMB52.9 million ($7.8 million) during the weekend of Sept. 11-13. The film, directed by Wen Muye, has achieved a total gross of $318.4 million since its debut on Aug. 11.
Its narrative centers on a Chinese chef whose restaurant transforms into a crucial sanctuary for civilians and orphans during regional armed conflict. In second place, the crime thriller "V" garnered $4.7 million in its fourth weekend. Animated fantasy comedy "All Wishes Come True!" secured third place with $4 million, and Universal's "The Odyssey" took fourth, crossing the $100 million mark.
The weekend's total box office revenue across mainland China amounted to $28.8 million. Year-to-date, the box office stands at $4.26 billion, reflecting a 27.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. "My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday" opened in fifth place.
