Weeping Woman's Wrath: La Llorona Sequel Promises Darker Thrills
12 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Sequel to 2019's "The Curse of La Llorona" in the works
- Filming to take place in Buffalo, New York
- Conjuring Universe ties remain uncertain

In October 2025, horror fans are in for another chilling experience as the Conjuring Universe expands into darker territory. More than six years after the release of "The Curse of La Llorona," a sequel titled "The Revenge of La Llorona" is now moving forward.
The 2019 film, which was loosely connected to the Conjuring Universe through a brief scene featuring the Annabelle doll, is set to receive its next chapter. According to reports, the upcoming installment will be filmed in Buffalo, New York. However, director James Wan, who has helmed several recent Conjuring films, will not be directing this sequel. Instead, he will serve as a producer alongside Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone.
The script for "The Revenge of La Llorona" is being handled by Sean Tretta of "Mayans M.C." fame. The director's chair will be taken by Santiago Menghini, who previously directed the horror film "No One Gets Out Alive." This change in creative leadership suggests the sequel may take the eerie tale of La Llorona in a new direction.
The original "The Curse of La Llorona" was a modest box office success, earning $123.2 million worldwide on a $9 million budget. While it remains the lowest-grossing entry in the Conjuring-connected titles, the profit margin was deemed too valuable to leave behind. The sequel aims to continue appealing to Latino audiences who helped make the 2019 film a success, but whether it will deepen its ties to the larger Conjuring storyline remains to be seen.
