Summary
- Director Chidambaram's next project is a Hindi film.
- Production for the Hindi film is expected to start next year.
- Extensive planning and casting are delaying the Hindi film's progress.
Director Chidambaram has confirmed that his next directorial project will be a Hindi film, currently under development and slated to begin production by the end of next year. This ambitious undertaking requires extensive planning, a key reason for its extended timeline. Chidambaram has been actively involved, travelling to Mumbai over the past two years for behind-the-scenes work, with casting being a major focus and contributor to the delay.
While awaiting the Hindi film's progress, Chidambaram successfully completed his latest Malayalam film, 'Balan.' He shared his long-standing aspiration to direct in Hindi, noting the language's potential to connect with a nationwide audience and offer larger budgets and greater visibility. He believes this aligns with a common dream for South Indian directors.
Chidambaram also shared his optimistic outlook on the future of cinema halls, asserting that despite the rise of OTT platforms and evolving viewing habits, theatrical experiences will persist. He cited recent box office successes as evidence that the communal ritual of watching films together remains strong and will adapt to new formats, such as 3D or holographic experiences, rather than disappear.
Meanwhile, Chidambaram's recent Malayalam film 'Balan' continues to perform well at the box office. As of Day 12, it had garnered an estimated Rs 45 lakhs (India net), bringing its total India net collection to Rs 16.43 crore and its worldwide gross collection to approximately Rs 30.24 crore.
