Vera Peterson, the oft-mentioned wife of "Cheers" regular Norm Peterson, was a character shrouded in mystery. Bernadette Birkett and George Wendt met in the mid-1970s as part of Chicago's Second City improv troupe. They married in 1978 and had three children together. Birkett's acting career began with a role on "Taxi" in 1981. Her first appearance as Vera on "Cheers" occurred in Season 3, where she was part of a humorous storyline involving mailman Cliff Clavin, who attempted to woo her on Halloween.
