According to a recent interview, actor Charlie Sheen wishes he had made more of an effort to stay connected with his friend Matthew Perry before the "Friends" star's untimely passing in October 2023. Sheen explains that he had read Perry's book just a month prior to his death and had intended to reach out and congratulate him, but never got around to it due to the demands of everyday life.
"I wish that I had stayed in better touch with him or just stayed more available," Sheen said. "His orbit was a hard one to penetrate, you know, or his ecosystem or whatever. Which isn't unsurprising because when people need to be insulated to hide or protect the things that they're doing. The fewer people getting past the velvet rope the better."
Tragically, Perry passed away at the age of 54, with his cause of death ruled as a ketamine overdose with drowning as a contributing factor. In the aftermath, five people were charged in connection to the actor's overdose, including a local drug dealer and Perry's own personal assistant.
Sheen expressed regret over not being able to congratulate Perry on his book and have a laugh about his inclusion in it. "There's one line where he says: 'Charlie Sheen. I'm going to be just as famous one day.' And I never got to reach out and, first of all, thank him for that, and congratulate him on the book. And then he, I think, died a month after I read it."
