3 May
Summary
- Charli XCX shared a studio teaser of a song called 'Rock Music'.

- The song explores her relationship with art and purpose.

Charli XCX has officially clarified that her much-discussed 'Rock Music' project is not a rock album, despite earlier assumptions. She recently posted studio footage on Instagram featuring a teaser of an unreleased song recorded in October 2025 in Paris.
The song itself, despite its title and some guitar elements, is produced in a hyper-pop style. XCX confirmed via Instagram that the track is "not actually rock music," humorously addressing the speculation. Lyrics displayed from her notes app touch upon themes of friendship, emotion, and artistic inspiration.
In a February interview with British Vogue, XCX had spoken about "bending the possibilities" of her perspective on rock music. She noted that revisiting the dance-centric sound of her previous album, 'Brat,' felt too difficult. At the time, she hinted at incorporating guitar, stating, "For me, it's fun to flip the form."
During that same interview, XCX revealed her upcoming album explores her deep connection to art as her "joint main love of my life outside of George [Daniel, her husband]." She reflected on the potential void if this creative purpose were removed. Her album 'Brat' achieved a career-high No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in 2024.
She also contributed to the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell's 'Wuthering Heights' adaptation, which was released in February. The soundtrack reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Soundtracks chart.
