The "Chandigarh's Indian Modernists" exhibition recently opened at the Government Museum & Art Gallery in Sector 10. This event, part of the 75 Years of the Idea of Chandigarh celebrations, was inaugurated by General V.P. Malik, former Chief of Army Staff.
The exhibition delves into the crucial roles played by Indian architects, engineers, and cultural figures in shaping Chandigarh's distinct modernist character. It showcases drawings, photographs, furniture, and writings, presenting the city as a result of collective intellectual and institutional endeavors.
Curated by Prof Vikramaditya Prakash and Eashan Chaufla, the exhibition highlights interdisciplinary collaboration as key to Chandigarh's built and cultural environment. General Malik stressed the importance of recognizing the Indian minds behind the city's modernist design and preserving institutional memory.
Organized by the Chandigarh Citizens Foundation in partnership with various cultural and educational institutions, the exhibition is open to the public until March 29, excluding Mondays and public holidays.
