Cedella Marley Champions Reggae Girlz Documentary

Cedella Marley, daughter of Bob Marley, executive produced "Reggae Girlz," a new documentary detailing the journey of Jamaica's Women's National Football Team. The film, which began streaming on October 27, 2026, chronicles the team's path to the world stage, focusing on their resilience amidst resource limitations.

Marley curated a soundtrack featuring nine previously released tracks from her family and one by Jamaican soccer star Tiffany Cameron. This compilation, available on limited edition vinyl, directs 100% of its net proceeds to the Reggae Girlz Foundation fund. The soundtrack aims to mirror the documentary's narrative of strength and Jamaican spirit.

The documentary highlights the team's historical achievements, including being the first Caribbean team to qualify for two consecutive World Cups (2019 and 2023). It also touches upon past controversies with the Jamaica Football Federation regarding payment disputes and lack of financial support, illustrating the systemic challenges faced by the athletes.

Marley, who served as the team's global ambassador from 2014 to 2024, emphasized the importance of positive storytelling. She aimed to illustrate the necessary changes within the federation, ensuring that the struggles of the past pave the way for future generations of female footballers.

The film, helmed by director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, seeks to educate viewers about Jamaica, its football federation, and the persistent challenges faced by the women's team. Marley expressed hope that the documentary will inspire young girls to pursue their dreams in women's football, stressing the need for structural changes to benefit athletes at all levels.
