CBS Cuts Episodes for Top Dramas
2 May
Summary
- Several popular CBS dramas will have fewer episodes next season.
- New series will launch with full season orders.
- Network is increasing its scripted series volume for 2026-27.

CBS is making notable adjustments to its 2026-27 television season schedule, with several established dramas receiving reduced episode orders. "Fire Country," a signature series for the network, will produce a 13-episode Season 5, a decrease from its typical full seasons. Similarly, "NCIS: Origins" and "NCIS: Sydney" are set for 10-episode seasons, down from their previous 18 and 20 episodes respectively.
These reductions come as CBS plans a significant increase in its scripted series offerings for the upcoming season. The network is adding three new dramas, "Cupertino," "Einstein," and "NCIS: New York," alongside a new comedy, "Eternally Yours." New fall series "Cupertino" and "NCIS: New York" are slated for full 20-episode seasons, while "Einstein" will have a 13-episode order. "Matlock" also returns for a midseason third season with a 13-episode order.
The network's Friday night lineup, featuring "Sheriff Country," "Fire Country," and "Boston Blue," will remain intact for the fall 2026 season, continuing its run as the No. 1 entertainment block. Despite these trims, CBS is expanding its scripted slate, bringing in new shows while only parting ways with "Watson," "The Neighborhood," and "DMV."
